Functional Fashion: New Instant Handbag Hanger Proving As Attractive To Wear As It Is Practical To Use

February 3rd, 2010 by Agenda Magazine
Respond

“Clipa” – Putting The Brace In Bracelet While Keeping Your Purse In Place.

It could be described as jewelry for your arm AND your handbag, but it is much more practical than that. The Clipa is a sleek, circular handbag hanger that clips effortlessly to any handbag strap. It can be used with single and double-strap bags and is so elegant it can even be worn as a bracelet or bangle. Clipa protects and extends the life of the handbag by preventing germs, water, dirt, and more from coming into contact with the bottom of the bag. The 3-inch diameter, bracelet-like Clipa has non-slip clip pads on each end, making it perfect for hanging almost any bag.

In fact, the patent-pending Clipa safely hangs handbags, backpacks, cases, purses, totes, book bags, diaper bags, umbrellas and more. The Clipa’s durable, heavy-duty construction makes it ideal for most bags including today’s larger handbags. It is great for clipping purses to headrests of a car to prevent them from dumping out at sudden stops. Unlike other hangers on the market, the Clipa always stays on the handbag for instant access-there’s no need to hunt inside the handbag for it. That’s why it has been called “the instant handbag hanger.”

To use, simply open one end and slide Clipa onto the strap: Clipa’s spring mechanism will automatically close. To hang a handbag, place one end of the Clipa on the table or other surface and hang the bag from the other end. When ready to leave, simply pull the handbag strap and let Clipa fall back onto the bag, ready for next time. For bathroom stalls, just guide Clipa up and back onto the bag. This handy item is perfect for restaurants, bars, outdoor cafes, sporting events, concerts, movie theaters (hang bag from the seat back in front of you or on the drink holder), poolside, and especially bathrooms where a hook isn’t always available. It works on most tabletops,
counters, chairs arms and backs, bathroom stall walls, rails, cubicle walls, fences, even many sinks. Also works great in airplane lavatories where there are handles but no hooks.

The Clipa’s timeless, modern design blends in with most handbag hardware. Clipa, which means “instantly” in Romanian, is made from high strength zinc alloy and is made in the U.S. from North American parts.

The Clipa sells for $19.99 and comes in polished silver or gold, brushed gold and silver or hematite (gunmetal) and is available at: www.clipa.us.

HIGH FASHION ON THE HIGH SEAS – PLANNING YOUR CRUISE WARDROBE

January 28th, 2010 by Agenda Magazine
Respond

For those interested in high-end fashion, a cruise knows no real “season.” Exploring different clothing looks to mesh with exotic ports of call and world-class cruise ships is just another exciting part of the anticipation and preparation for your escape from reality on a cruise.

“The notion of ‘fashion-forward’ wardrobe options loosely transitioned to acceptable everyday items is what the phrase ‘ready to wear’ is all about. In fashion, ‘resort season’ means making these ‘ready- to-wear’ items chic, seasonal, and weather specific. An opportunity to feel great with how you look should never be under estimated, certainly not on your cruise. No occasion is too small for you to feel special,” says New York’s Valentino Showroom Manager Tim Pare.

M Missoni, Prada, Roberto Cavalli, and Chanel resort collections are all popular classic labels for leisure fashion. In addition to their long shelf life, today’s cruise clothing lines are more successful than ever because, unlike traditional cutting-edge fashion, they are more simple and translatable. The newest and previously unheard-of aspect of the haute couture fashions? Wearability – pieces that can be incorporated into a daily wardrobe, not just used for a limited cruise experience.

This wearability philosophy extends to off-the-rack pieces as well. Retailers like Saks Fifth Avenue, Bergdorf Goodman, Nordstrom’s and Neiman Marcus offer a plethora of cruise wear options. Also, each store offers the option of working with a personal shopper.

A useful option is the Niemen Marcus website, a “virtual studio” in which customers can inquire about items that are not available online. Consumers can email their personal shopper, who posts a digital photo of the product to an online site where the customer has two weeks to view the image. If they decide to make the purchase, the personal shopper is available to answer questions and assist – very handy for those busy consumers who cannot make it into the store.

So where to begin? Cruisers must consider the following questions when planning a cruise wardrobe:

* What is your cruise itinerary? Wardrobes will vary as much as the route of your cruise. Alaska choices will differ from a Caribbean cruise.

* What cruise line will you be vacationing on? Ultra-luxury lines like Oceania or Regent Seven Seas may have different wardrobe requirements than a family-friendly line like Disney.

* What type of excursions do you have planned? A cruise on Lindblad Expeditions, an eco-friendly line that partners with National Geographic, is all about exploration, and recommends the traveler’s wardrobe be centered around comfort and practicality. If you’re cruising on Crystal and plan to visit the Russian opera and ballet, be ready to break out the evening gowns and tuxes.

Still unsure about what to wear?

Consider creating a checklist that details your plans and matches your wardrobe to it.

Need help getting started? CruiseCompete recommends visiting AllThingsCruise for some handy checklists, videos and tips on packing.

Alexa Chung for Madewell Celebrated TV personality, Model and Style Muse to Design Exclusive Collection for Madewell

January 25th, 2010 by Agenda Magazine
Respond

January 20, 2010 — Alexa Chung is many things: TV personality, model, DJ, writer, photographer, downtown-cool style icon, best-dressed-list mainstay . . . and now she can add fashion designer to the list. She’s is partnering with Madewell, the heritage denim label that’s part of J.Crew Group, to create an exclusive collection—her first-ever collaboration with any label—due to debut fall 2010. Chung will translate her widely admired aesthetic and irreverently sexy tomboy look to this limited-edition Alexa Chung for Madewell collection, which will include covetable jeans and a tightly-edited group of key pieces to wear with them. The collection will be sold through madewell1937.com – which will also be launching ecommerce this spring – and in Madewell stores nationwide. Chung will also be the creative muse and face of the collection for a planned fall ad campaign.

“I’m very excited for my first collaboration and thrilled that it’s with Madewell,” says British-bred Chung. “This partnership came together organically and is a great fit as the brand is so classic and really encompasses my style. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working with the team and I can’t wait for my friends to wear it!”

The evolution of the relationship between Madewell and Chung was a natural one: When the Madewell team, already inspired by Chung’s innate style, learned that Chung, in turn, was a Madewell fan (and a regular at Madewell’s Soho store), they knew their mutual admiration could be spun into a partnership fusing their creative sensibilities.

“Alexa’s style is inspiring and inventive, yet unbelievably approachable and down-to-earth,” says Madewell design director Kin Ying Lee. “The way she puts everything together is so spot-on—and so perfectly Madewell. What excited us the most about Alexa is that she has such a clear point of view, and she enthusiastically brings that to the collection.”

In the lead up to the collection’s launch, the latest developments about the collection will be tweeted by Chung at twitter.com/madewell1937, and additional updates will be posted on madewell1937.com.

About Madewell

Originally founded in 1937 in New Bedford, Massachusetts as a traditional work wear label, Madewell was reinvented and relaunched in 2006 as a modern-day heritage denim purveyor under the J.Crew Group (NYSE: JCG) by J.Crew Group Chairman and CEO Millard “Mickey” Drexler. The vintage-meets-modern influence of the line draws from Madewell’s historic roots. In addition to denim, a full range of downtown-cool clothing and accessories is also on offer. Each Madewell piece has an easygoing feel and is designed to pair back to denim to create an individual, inspired look. Madewell currently has 17 stores across the U.S., including a flagship in New York City’s Soho. Madewell’s website, www.madewell1937.com, will be launching ecommerce in mid-2010.

About Alexa

Born in central England, 26-year-old television personality, writer, model and style icon Chung started her career in London after attending art school. She moved to New York City in 2009 to launch her widely acclaimed live daily MTV talk show It’s On with Alexa Chung, and was quickly lauded for her inspirational style in the pages of Vogue. In her free time, Alexa serves as a contributing editor to British Vogue, enjoys scouring for vintage, taking photos, watching MAD MEN and singing bad Karaoke.

Gloria Bass of Vintage Glo Jewelry Designs, the Belle of the Golden Globe Gifter’s Ball

January 23rd, 2010 by Agenda Magazine
Respond

Gloria Bass of Vintage Glo Jewelry Designs was a big hit with celebrities at the GBK Official Golden Globes Gifting Lounge held January 15-16, 2010 at the Mondrian Hotel. Her high-end one-of-a-kind jewelry was popular with both male and female Golden Globe presenters and nominees.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) January 23, 2010 — With the parade of celebrities visiting gifting suites last weekend, Gloria Bass, designer of Vintage Glo Jewelry (www.vintageglo.com), was the belle of the Golden Globe Gifter’s Ball! Her jewelry, ranging from statement rings to rosaries, turned every head that saw her display. Deidre Hall came back the following day just to gush about her Vintage Glo necklace she wore at a party the night before. Celebrities who proudly wore Vintage Glo Designs (Jordin Sparks, Shar Jackson, Kate Flannery, Steph Jones, Sara Hyland, and Mekhi Phifer, and more) left suite 116 at the Mondrian Hotel grinning from ear to ear as their new Vintage Glo “bling” sparkled uniquely around their necks, their wrists, their fingers, or whichever body parts they chose to display.
Gloria Bass and Deidre Hall - photo by Arun Nevader

As a newer designer, Gloria Bass had concerns about choosing the right company in which to gift her designs. Unlike many jewelers, her one-of-a-kind pieces provided something for everyone, both male and female alike. Her jewelry is high-end enough to dress any celebrity for red carpet, yet she provides affordable pieces for the regular shopper who wants something unique. Choosing a gifting suite seemed overwhelming, as there are so many in L.A. But once Bass made the decision to do it, she went for it, choosing GBK Official Golden Globes Gifting Lounge.

“It’s always been satisfying to see my strong customer base happy with my product and it was even more satisfying to see a different caliber of people who were also impressed by my designs. The experience with GBK was fun and I was happy to have the opportunity to be a part of such a well run organization. I can’t imagine not ever having experienced it. I was on cloud 20! It made it even more fun to have my sister fly in from Texas and be with me to share in this experience. I was shocked to see all the celebrities and press so taken aback . . . I was surprised. It was the highlight of my experience.” – Gloria Bass

Vintage Glo Jewelry has warmed its way into the hearts of many—its popularity is growing at a rapid pace. This is just one of those instances where the product literally sells itself. All anyone needs to do is take one look and it is love at first sight.

Gloria Bass has big surprises for jewelry lovers. She will be starring in a webisode outlining the trials and joys of creating Vintage Glo Jewelry. She is also an advocate of improving the foster care system in Los Angeles and has aligned herself with Agenda Foundation (www.agendafoundation.org), a 501 (c) 3, that trains foster youth in filmmaking, and offers them opportunities for a career in film.

“Just like my jewelry is ‘green,’ people think they need to be out there having babies of their own, when they can just as easily help those children who need families. Why not go green with kids too! Going green doesn’t have to cost a lot of money. Foster care is the way to go to change a life. And having adopted my own foster child, I speak from experience.” – Gloria Bass

As more people wear Vintage Glo, they’re helping to aid a cause that is so underserved in our country. Not only is Gloria Bass helping to save the planet by repurposing vintage pieces for her jewelry designs, but she’s also saving a child one Vintage Glo piece at a time.

“Not only do I want to see my jewelry glow, I most importantly would like to see that ‘glo’ in a child’s eyes.” – Gloria Bass

Tone Your Tush: Fitness expert shares the top 3 ways to shape and firm your butt

January 21st, 2010 by Agenda Magazine
Respond

Everyone knows that sitting on your behind all day does little to improve your physique and unfortunately your glutes are probably the hardest hit. So what’s the secret to getting and maintaining a fabulous fanny? Fitness expert and owner of Phenomenal Fitness, Sean Armstead, shares the following three tips that will help you tone up and reshape your glutes.

“Most people don’t realize that glutes have an effect on the function of the knee, hips and feet in addition to having a vital role in standing posture,” explains Armstead. “That’s why it’s crucial to incorporate moves that address each of these areas into your fitness routine.”

Floor Bridges

* Lying on the back, with legs bent and feet flat on the floor, place feet about hip width apart
* Relax the head and shoulders as you lift the hips up and hold for 2 seconds
* Make sure to stay on the heels of your feet and squeeze glutes at the top
* Slowly lower hips, without touching the ground and repeat
* Make sure to keep stomach tight throughout range of motion

Reaches

* From a staggered stance standing position (feet parallel, pointed forward and hip width apart).
* Reach down toward your lead leg/foot, focusing your movement in the lead leg’s hip.
* As you reach down towards your foot the knee flexes no more than 10-15 degrees.
* Prior to returning up to starting position while at the bottom of your reach, push through the floor (creating tension in the leg and hip) and return to upright, well aligned standing position.

Hip Stretch

* Standing in a staggered position, hands on hips, feet hip or shoulder width apart, exaggerated stride length.
* Check to make sure weight is distributed evenly on both sides
* The trail leg will receive the hip stretch by shifting weight forward to lead leg.
* Knee should be stacked over the lead leg (non stretching side). Upper body and hips aligned vertically, trail leg is straight while driving the heel into ground.

Armstead recommends completing 15 repetitions with two to three sets of each of the exercises for optimal results.

- Talk with Nick Knight
- designo – Mercedes-Benz bespoke service
- Designers and the GOLDENE KAMERA awards

Talk with Nick Knight
The Mercedes-Benz courtesy lounge was busy with local and international journalists at 9am this morning. The opening event for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin was a talk on the Power of Visions. In conversation was leading international photographer, Nick Knight – responsible for the current SLS AMG visual campaign – and Anders Sundt Jensen, Vice President Brand Communications, Mercedes-Benz Cars. The 45 minute session was moderated by Alex Marashian, Editor-at-Large for AnOther Magazine.
The discussion centered around the nature of cutting edge imagery and the inter-relations between Design, Technology and Fashion. Knight explained that the primary motivation for the campaign visual was, „To get people thinking about this car… to get a sense the future has just arrived. For me, the term ‚cutting edge’ indicates something I haven’t seen before. I found the sense of freedom it represents to be seductive – almost like being able to fly.”

designo – Mercedes-Benz bespoke service
designo is the bespoke program for the exterior/ interior of any Mercedes-Benz car. In conjunction with the Mercedes-Benz design studio, they have created a model racetrack environment for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin. Six SLS AMG model cars, scaled to 1: 24, have been built and run on four lanes. The topographic landscape on which the racetrack lies is made from the latest collection of leathers available to designo clients. This unique opportunity invites visitors to interact with the SLS AMG car in a playful manner, whilst receiving valuable insights from the Mercedes-Benz consultants in attendance.

Designers and the GOLDENE KAMERA awards
Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin brings glamour to the annual prize-giving event, GOLDENE KAMERA by ‚Hörzu’ magazine. IWC Schaffhausen and Jean Reno Jointly Celebrate a Film Premiere

January 20th, 2010 by Agenda Magazine
Respond

IWC celebrated the relaunch of its Portuguese family with a film starring Jean Reno at the SIHH Watch Fair

Geneva, 19 January 2010 – The Swiss watchmaking company IWC Schaffhausen celebrated its new Portuguese watch collection on the occasion of the SIHH in Geneva amidst a setting inspired by typical yacht design features. Prominent guests joined invited business partners for the “IWC Dinner” at the Espace Sécheron, where they were enthused by the premiere of the IWC short film starring Hollywood actor Jean Reno.

More than 600 invited guests, including prominent personalities such as Zinédine Zidane, Boris Becker and Luís Figo, gathered for the cocktail reception hosted by IWC at the Espace Sécheron in a nautical ambiance. Also mingling with the guests, alongside best-selling author Paulo Coelho and Hollywood star Jean Reno, were Arsène Wenger, Alain Sutter and Tim Jefferies, who were visibly at their ease in the relaxed atmosphere. Various installations, attended by specialists, echoed the central theme of the evening: the fascination of matters both nautical and navigational. Here a meteorologist gave an introduction to the secrets and perils of forecasting the weather, followed by an expert who explained the significance and function of the sextant. One authority contrasted and compared modern and antique cartography and explored the intricacies of longitude and latitude, which to this day retain their relevance as coordinate systems for accurate positioning.

Film Premiere with Jean Reno
The high point of the evening was the film premiere with Jean Reno: IWC, together with French actor and director Didier Flamand and Swiss production company Condor Films, has produced a short film for the relaunch of its Portuguese watches, which makes the origins and the fascination of navigation the centre of attention. “The Spirit of Navigation” is a mystical work full of poetry, a philosophical commemoration of the scientists, seafarers and astronomers of days long gone by. Hollywood actor Jean Reno moves through time and space as a protagonist in the midst of a magical production, acquaints the viewer with the art of navigation, which originated some 6,000 years ago, and recounts the development of early nautical instruments. Various levels, cinematic special effects and montages establish a link to the newly released Portuguese watches, the icons of IWC, which utilize the precise, sophisticated and elegant navigational instruments as their role model. After an exquisite dinner, it was the turn of Nils Landgren, one of the most successful European jazz musicians, and his band “Funk Unit”, to take the spotlight. This virtuoso trombonist not only swept spiritedly across the stage, but also managed to enthral the audience with his solos alternating subtly between various styles.
