Whitney Houston Found Dead in Her Beverly Hilton Hotel Room, February 11, 2012

From modeling as a teenager for Seventeen Magazine to winning multiple Grammys, Whitney Houston made her mark in this world as an unforgettable superstar. Despite her ill-fated, tumultuous marriage to singer Bobby Brown, she will always be remembered as playing opposite Kevin Costner in The Body Guard, and winning multiple awards for her hits “ How Will I know,” “Saving All My Love for You,” “Greatest Love of All,” and “I Will Always Love You.” Whitney Houston was the most awarded female act of all time, according to Guinness World Records, with a total of 415 career awards including 6 Grammys, 30 Billboard Music Awards, and 22 American Music Awards.
Celebrities and close friends of Houston (Quincy Jones, Christina Aguilera, Gloria Estefan, Tony Bennet, etc.) have voiced their condolences and shock of the singer’s passing. Several celebrities released statements responding to Houston’s death. Dolly Parton, whose song “I Will Always Love You” was covered by Houston, said, “I will always be grateful and in awe of the wonderful performance she did on my song and I can truly say from the bottom of my heart, ‘Whitney, I will always love you. You will be missed’.” Houston’s godmother Aretha Franklin said, “It’s so stunning and unbelievable. I couldn’t believe what I was reading coming across the TV screen.”

It’s always hard to accept when someone dies before her time. In this case, Whitney Houston was a flame that burned strong and well, but that flame began to fade with her struggle with drugs and an unstable personal life. Circumstances (or maybe just wrong choices) determined her destiny, which ended February 11, 2012, at the age of 48. Houston leaves behind her only child shared with Bobby Brown, Bobbi Kristina Houston Brown.
Most recent deaths of 2012 are singer Etta James (died January 20, 2012) and Soul Train creator Don Cornelius (died February 1, 2012).
