Shady: November 2010 Face of the Month

What is your background?  Where were you born, go to school, etc…

I was born and raised in Los Angeles California.  I grew up living in the Hollywood hills, Malibu, and eventually Brentwood. I currently live in New York City and go to Parsons School of Design. I am graduating at the end of December with my fashion marketing degree.  Growing up in Los Angeles my entire life, I really needed a change of scenery and a change of people so I felt I really needed to move somewhere new like NYC and get a new feel for things.

If you could describe yourself in a couple of sentences, what would you say?

If I had to describe myself in a couple of sentences, I would say I am fun, exciting, out going and artistic.

What are some of your hobbies?

Some of my hobbies include drawing, painting, and designing, styling clothes, going to the beach, playing tennis and having fun with my friends.

How did you get started modeling?

I got started modeling when I was six years old. I was in a campaign for a children’s bathing suit line called Coconut Water. While living in Hollywood our next-door neighbor was the owner of the Brazilian bathing suit line, Coconut Water. They asked my mother if it would be okay if I modeled for their line, and she said sure, just for fun.   I remember being so nervous, but I soon really enjoyed it! My mom was a model for years, and always encouraged me to follow my dreams and pursue modeling if I wanted to.

What was the biggest challenge while pursuing your goals?  How did you overcome it?

The biggest challenge while pursuing my goals was having to balance school and my modeling career. Sometimes one will suffer while the other is being focused on. You have to learn what’s important to you and make sure you have your priorities in check.

What were some of the highs for you as a model?  Any hurdles?

I always have a great time modeling. It is fun for me and I am very happy and lucky to be able to do what I love. One of the highs in my modeling career was when I got hired to do a runway tour for a little over a year with Sebastian Hair Company. I got to travel to many places I had never been to, and also got to meet some amazing girls that I am still friends with to this day.  Some hurdles I encountered in my modeling career were dealing with negative people and criticism. I had to learn to rise above the negativity and focus on myself.

Who is your inspiration?

My inspiration has always been Audrey Hepburn since I was a child.  She was a very strong woman who went through a lot and never let it hurt her spirit.  She was beautiful, talented and smart.  She loved fashion and the beautiful things in life. She gave back to the world, and was a big contributor to many charities.  In my own personal life, the people who inspire me are those who are confident and don’t let drama or other small situations take over their lives.  My friends inspire me everyday as well as my older brother Sean, and my niece Phoebe.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

In five years I see myself living in either New York City or Los Angeles with a career in the fashion business styling or designing as well as pursuing my modeling.

What would be your dream job?

My dream job would be having my own successful clothing line and boutique.

What advice would you give to an aspiring model?

Advice that I would give to an aspiring model would be hang in there.  There’s a lot of competition but stay strong, be confident and true to yourself. Don’t give up on your dreams.
