It was bumper to bumper. She escaped the freeway’s congestion into the canyon roads, weaving her way to the peak. Twilight approaches the mountain’s shadow nears the coast. It is a quest for her light. Dropped down into the heights of the Santa Monica mountains, the southern sun gives way to thick green shadows  held aloft by late light on an elevated beach in between soft orange sky and electric tendencies; with structured fading over a beach that isn’t truly west; and morphing through a single golden minute of sideways, facing sunset, perched above the Pacific Coast Highway. Hiking in through the ridge line, chasing a magic final moment that few see with the last light of the Malibu sun. —Maximilian Xavier
