Madison Park Collective Fall 2012 Runway Review

Since runway shows for men’s collections are so few and far between, the Madison Park Collective show was a welcome departure from the usual.  The collection, designed by a showroom owner Trey Alligood III, whose experience and direct contact with retail buyers undoubtedly gives the market what it needs, did not overwhelm.  Though this line is known for its unique and special treatment of denim, that isn’t really what stood out during its runway show at Vibiana during Style Fashion Week LA.  While the choreographed dancing was somewhat cute, the styling was uninspiring, presenting us with a pretty a picture of good looking boys dressed in outfits more aptly described as “boring” than “stylish.”

The saving element was by far the pants: interesting washes and coated fabrics, well-fitting cuts (at least on the models), great details, and a variety of colors.  While we do understand that no two t-shirts are ever alike, upon seeing the tops (mostly t-shirts) the question, “Does the world needs another basic t-shirt?” definitely came up. The scarves provided some interesting details that could have been pushed a little more, at least for the styling of the runway show.  While it may have inspired the buyers to fill out order forms, the actual presentation of of the Madison Park Collective collection did not inspire with its style quotient, and left me wondering if the “fashion” was somehow omitted from the “fashion show.”

Some of these boys definitely have a je ne sais quoi, deserving a second glance!  To see the collection and backstage, please click the image(s) below.
