Product Review: Koh Gen Do Oriental Plants Balm

Koh Gen Do Oriental Plants BalmVisit any department store, beauty supply store, or drugstore . . . and you’ll find no shortage of so-called miracle creams and balms. The lineup is extensive, and for many beauty seekers, it can be daunting. It seems as if every cream is promising to deliver that miracle result: you’ll be younger, more vibrant, and even more beautiful. So when we came across Koh Gen Do Oriental Plants Balm, we were understandably skeptical.

This small pot (less than half an ounce) of balm is touted as the ultimate
multitasking moisturizer. You can apparently use it from head to toe; the extensive list of ingredients is referenced by source, and all fairly easy to pronounce. They’re all packed into a base of jojoba oil, shea butter, and avocado oil. So far, we’re impressed.

We followed the instructions and emulsified a small amount between palms and pressed it into our skin. This balm, despite its name, is not very heavy. It actually absorbs rather well. It even settled into our oily skin within a few minutes. Okay! Color us a bit more impressed.

What is most impressive about this balm (and the company behind it) is the noticeable lack of miracle claims. It simply claims to moisturize and nourish your skin. That’s it. It doesn’t promise fireworks, singing sprites, or a visit from the Anti-Aging Fairy Godmother. Still, we’ve found that with continued use, our skin has become softer and boasts a noticeable clarity. We love the fact that this balm is fragrance-free, and that only a little product (one little finger swipe) is needed to get the job done.

Koh Gen Do might not make any miracle claims about its Oriental Plants Balm, but we think we’d forgive them if they embellished just a bit.
