t_rains_005Project Ethos was held at Avalon in Hollywood in March 2013, just prior to LA Fashion Week. Once again it was a fashion-filled show. Check out the highlights of that event, photographed by Jeff Linett.
Held on March 22, Sue Wong presented a dynamic collection of luxury cocktail dresses during the El Paseo Fall 2013 Fashion Week in Palm Desert, CA. Her usual array of flapper-style designs was particularly relevant for the theme of her show. Wong’s collection was inspired by the effervescent exuberance of the jazz age, epitomized by F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel The Great Gatsby. —Kaylene Peoples Check out the stunning photos of that runway show and backstage, taken by Arun Nevader. (Read more of this review at [...]
Held at Vibiana in Downtown Los Angeles during Style Fashion Week LA Fall 2013, Go Red for Women was an event to be remembered, and a genuine cause célèbre.
At Pier 57 on February 8, 2013, in New York City, Sally LaPointe showcased her Fall 2013 collection. The diversity of the pieces were amazing. This dark, goth-inspired collection had a bit of an 80s feel to it. However, the references to other influences are endless: Matrix, futuristic styles, flared-hemmed tops, bare-backed silhouettes, and even startling feminine pieces. The color theme stayed safe with black, tan, white, rust, and splashes of red. Check out the Sally LaPointe Fall 2013 Runway, photographed by Arun Nevader.
Held at the Skylight Studio on February 9, 2013, in New York City, fetish inspired silhouettes, parabolic seams, figure-hugging dresses, and a twist on jackets with big round buttons are what described Altuzarra’s Fall 2013 collection.
With a special appearance by Aviva Drescher of Real Housewives of New York, designer Malan Breton’s show was one of the most tweeted during Fashion Week in New York; he really outdid himself with his latest collection. The line was dedicated to Marilyn Monroe, and while watching it, I really felt like I was witnessing an “old Hollywood” made-new tribute. The dresses were demure and sultry, just the way Marilyn Monroe wore them whenever she made a “dressy” formal appearance, or appeared on the red carpet.
Rolando Santana’s latest collection was inspired by the three-dimensional abstract creations of John Chamberlain. Known for his feminine dresses with uncomplicated silhouettes, designer Rolando Santana keeps up that standard and delights us with flirty accents. His textiles are enhanced by rare color details.
My past training and education affects who I am today, and I express who I am today through my design choices and fashion creations. The passion, expression and emotion I experienced through my training in theater, television; painting and ballet comes out with my fashion creations. The work discipline from being a practicing dental surgeon affects my strong work ethic.
On October 11, 2012 for the start of LA Fashion Week, Project Ethos moved their show to downtown this season. Held at The historic Exchange LA and LA Art Walk, Project Ethos featured fashion shows, DJs, and an Icelandic pop group called The Charlies.
Fabric manipulation, in all its forms, was the guiding thread throughout martinMartin’s Spring/Summer 2013 runway show at Concept Fashion Week: draping, stitching, folding, crinkling, wrinkling, crumpling, to create an origami-like feel, or simply to amass texture . . . to a great effect, most of the time . . . Focused more on structure rather than drama, and notwithstanding a few men wearing pants that looked like long skirts (would those be called culottes?), the collection offered some strong, sculptural pieces.
