Producer/Director Gilbert Adler (Valkyrie, Superman Returns, Starsky & Hutch) has a heart for veterans and he shows it in a big way by producing probably one of the most significant events of his life. Instead of producing a film, he’s producing an event—a fundraiser at the Playboy Mansion sponsored by the Thalians on April 30, 2011 to help United States veterans.

There’s a lot to be said for free “stuff!” From my observations, people are really inclined to make an appearance if they’re promised a loaded swag bag. I used to suffer from that affliction until my office storage room began to overflow—that being one of the main reasons I personally stopped attending gifting suites.

I ran into legendary George Clinton from the group Parliament-Funkadelic at the 5th Annual Denim and Diamonds for Autism Benefit last fall. He arrived in a Rolls Royce, dressed in Native American headdress and an impressive entourage to boot! I was at the red carpet when his “chariot” arrived. Just as he used to do back in his heyday, once again George Clinton proved that the entrance is everything!

When I see somebody in my clothing, I get goose bumps. I get giddy. I get as giddy as being in it. I get excited about watching people try things on. And I almost cry every time someone puts on one of my dresses. I get high like this everyday.

It’s really amazing to be involved in this production and to be able to have complete control over everything. It allows us to bring our sponsors in—things that we couldn’t do before—working with IMG and Smashbox because they had their own sponsors. It allows us to have complete creative control over all the branding of the shows.

When Dizzy was performing, I was looking at him and pinching myself: “This man is actually my employee? I’m employing Dizzy Gillespie?” It’s quite a feeling! His performance was on Easter weekend. My husband bought a big lamb. We cooked it and invited all the musicians. We had a feast that Dizzy Gillespie always talked about.

When I got asked to put together some scene work for Sex and the City 2, I was looking for a romantic comedy. It sat on my desk, and I remember thinking, “What am I going to do with this now?” Eventually I got to it. That was my first romantic comedy. It’s kind of strange when you play pretty hard characters, which I’ve been playing. What I’m trying to say, it was great because it was me just becoming me just having fun. It was brilliant just to be able to portray myself. Obviously with a character I don’t walk around naked, of course.

Gifting suites have become a big business. Celebrities are almost guaranteed to show up. The appeal? Getting free stuff and getting your picture taken for the whole world to see. It’s an incredible opportunity if you’re a star. I’ve seen A-listers to C-listers to no-listers walk out of a gifting suite with so much swag they needed their entourage to help them carry it all to their cars.

About three years after my training, I picked up quite a few clients, and it was word of mouth from there. I never really advertised. The kind of work that I do, I help a lot of people. It goes really deep. I deal with cancer patients—they lose their hair—I have swim caps. I just do a lot with patients as well. I think my work is not just swimwear. It runs much deeper than that. I could probably write a book on the stories that I’ve been told from the women that I fit and how I’ve helped them. So there’s something deep about my work. It’s not just swimsuits.
