Love transcends worlds and time as six people from different times and worlds come together to battle evil.  The story begins in Ireland in the 12th Century, moves to modern day New York, where the circle forms, moves to modern day Ireland, where their training begins, then on to Geall, where the battle takes place.  Never have I enjoyed a story with vampires as major characters more!  In fact, I’ve avoided them as reading fodder, not liking the blood and gore I expect to occupy the pages of any novel with them as characters.  But Nora Roberts has once again proven herself to be the master of the romance novel as she takes six unlikely characters and weaves their stories of love and adventure into three of the best romance novels of all time.

Morrigan’s Cross, the first in the trilogy, introduces us to Hoyt, a sorcerer from 12th Century Ireland, and Glenna, a witch from modern day New York.  Suspending disbelief, the reader travels forward in time with Hoyt to modern day New York, where we meet Cian, Hoyt’s twin brother who was turned into a vampire by Lilith, queen of the vampires, more than nine hundred years ago.  Hoyt has been charged by the faerie queen and goddess Morrigan to form the circle to battle the evil that has plagued the worlds for centuries.  Geall is where it all began and Geall is where it is to end.  “. . . you must be victorious,” Morrigan tells Hoyt, “or the world you know, the worlds you have yet to know, will be overcome.”

Dance of the Gods, the second book, introduces us to Larkin, a shape shifter from medieval Geall, his cousin Moira (future queen of Geall), and Blair, a demon hunter from modern day Chicago. With Cian, the circle of six is complete: “. . .  the sorcerer, the witch, the warrior, the scholar, the one of many forms, and the one you’ve lost,” Morrigan tells Hoyt.  They train for the battle to come.

Valley of Silence, the third book, is also the name of the battleground where the circle of six and those they train upon their return to Geall meet and battle the evil that has plagued the worlds for centuries.

Three beautifully written novels of love and courage make up one of Nora Robert’s most successful, most suspenseful, most heart-warming trilogies ever. You will not be able to stop reading until you’ve completed all three.
