So what is bi-polar disorder? It is also known as a “manic-depressive” condition and causes a person to be severely depressed at times and extremely euphoric at others. Both men and women can suffer from bi-polar disorder, and it can hit at any age; but many people seem to start noticing the symptoms in their twenties, although teens have been diagnosed as well. It also appears that approximately 85% of people suffering from bi-polar have a family history of depression.

The inventive doctor suggested leaving a piece of meat on the leg next to the wound. Surely enough, six hours later the worm had been tempted halfway out and could be removed entirely. Medical costs that are claimed on travel insurance usually aren’t as grisly as this!

I attended the 2010 Palm Springs Film Festival earlier this year and enjoyed the foreign film Paulista, which was directed by award-winning Robert Moreira. The film won Best Picture and Best Actress at the Hollywood Brazillian Film Festival and has received rave reviews in the independent film circuit. Paulista features the following accomplished Brazillian actors: Silvia Lourenco, Maria Clara Spinelli, Danni Carlos, Paulo Vilhena, Fabio Herford, Leilah Moreno, and Gustavo Machado.

The book is at times very touching and engrossing, at times humorous and will leave you in stitches; but you will leave with a renewed faith in your own religion. Albom makes no distinction between religions, but his nonfiction work attests to a deep respect for one’s personal choice.

The Help, a New York Times bestseller by Kathryn Stockett, is a novel depicting the personal relationship between black maids and the white families, especially the women, who employ them. The story is set in a fictional section of Jackson, Mississippi, from 1962 to 1964. It tells a story of what it was like being a black maid in the Civil Rights era in Jackson, Mississippi, as seen through the eyes of two black maids and one liberal white woman, uniquely three first person narrators.
