On September 8, 2011, Richard Chai’s Love + Men’s Spring 2012 collection was filled with layered separates and odd pairings.  For her, short pleated skirt fronts worn like aprons over long pants.  For him, long shorts, jackets and shirts styled with vividly colorful socks and casual shoes.  Not Chai’s usual mix of color palettes, this season was a confusing juxtaposition of colors and prints and stripes.  His presentation was one of quirky combinations.  The crisscross yellow and black top worn over pale pink and blue pattern shorts with a black flared tailored blazer . . . can you say “wow!” And with eye-popping inventiveness, Chai’s softly draped dresses were only signature in their construction.  His choice of printed fabrics sets him worlds apart from previous seasons.  He forces the “ball into the square box”!  Oddly, it works.
