Back in 2005 I was hired to shoot a few veteran skateboarders just before the premier of Lords of Dogtown was released. One of the guys knew of an amazing abandoned house right at the entrance to Beverly Hills. The backyard had a perfect vintage California style concrete pool.

Summer brought with it a heat wave to Los Angeles, and a wave of creativity to 838MG. The summer months were some of the busiest months at 838MG in a long time, and we were shooting almost every day, sometimes even more than one shoot a day!

This is the first time I’ve written in more than a month. A break-up will do that to you. Separating my life from someone after nearly five years has been a life-altering experience, to say the least. And amidst the process of moving out, moving in, not having access to a personal computer, and crying on the shoulder of my mother . . . I felt like I lost it.

Reading about relationships has become a rite of passage in these sexually complex times. Nobody seems to know anything about the opposite sex anymore. Numerous books on dating and mating have hit bestseller status, while others like “He’s Just Not that Into You,” and “Sex and the City,” have been made into blockbuster movies. Now, a Los Angeles author (and also one of our contributing reporters!), Marilyn Anderson, has turned her best selling relationship book into a comedy web series.

Peacocks strut their stuff, and so did the models in their peacock-styled makeup and hair. (The models’ eyes were made up to look birdlike.) Do you think Hannant was trying to tell us something? Feathers are the trend of the season, and Hannant amply infuses them throughout this collection.

Literally the inspiration for the Fall 2010 collection came from images captured by the Hubble telescope. The galaxy inspired this season’s beading according to Mischka. Depending on when Badgley Mischka starting designing the collection, one might wonder if the designers had just seen the movie Star Trek. I only say this because of the way the models were styled; long pony tail hairstyles, a ton of metallic in varying pallettes with hues of silver.
