PAULISTA: A FEATURE FILM FROM BRAZIL

PAULISTA: A FEATURE FILM FROM BRAZIL

I attended the 2010 Palm Springs Film Festival earlier this year and enjoyed the foreign film Paulista, which was directed by award-winning Robert Moreira. The film won Best Picture and Best Actress at the Hollywood Brazillian Film Festival and has received rave reviews in the independent film circuit. Paulista features the following accomplished Brazillian actors: Silvia Lourenco, Maria Clara Spinelli, Danni Carlos, Paulo Vilhena, Fabio Herford, Leilah Moreno, and Gustavo Machado.

HAVE A LITTLE FAITH by Mitch Albom

HAVE A LITTLE FAITH by Mitch Albom

The book is at times very touching and engrossing, at times humorous and will leave you in stitches; but you will leave with a renewed faith in your own religion. Albom makes no distinction between religions, but his nonfiction work attests to a deep respect for one’s personal choice.

THE HELP by Kathryn Stockett

THE HELP by Kathryn Stockett

The Help, a New York Times bestseller by Kathryn Stockett, is a novel depicting the personal relationship between black maids and the white families, especially the women, who employ them. The story is set in a fictional section of Jackson, Mississippi, from 1962 to 1964. Producer, Engineer, and Mixer Rich Mouser Deemed the Guru of Indie Rock: Steadily Raising the Bar of Quality Recordings

Deemed the guru of indie rock, Rich Mouser has recorded countless bands. His specialty is certainly in the guitar-driven rock genre. He has helped cultivate the sound of emerging indie bands and has polished established acts inside and outside of the country. He’s one of the most respected progressive rock engineers and mixers and has worked with Transatlantic, Spock’s Beard, Dream Theater, and more. Within the last few years, Mouser has imported Irish talent (Jaded Sun, Paul Toal, and Lancelot), produced their albums, and helped to establish their sound. It’s not so far-fetched that bands outside of the country have traveled here just to have the opportunity to work with this talented producer.

LA Fashion Week . . . Where Did You Go?

LA Fashion Week . . . Where Did You Go?

Fashion Week as I’ve known it for the last 6 1/2 years was very different this season. There were runway shows and designer installations scattered throughout Los Angeles, including Beverly Hills and West Hollywood. But how I longed for the days when everything was held under one roof. Smashbox Studios on Higuera in Culver City was fashion week’s old familiar home base. But we fashion followers were at a loss.
