Louis Vuitton Womenswear Spring/Summer 2022 showed as part of Paris Fashion Week on October 05, 2021, at the Louvre in Paris, France. Mixing it up with distinctive fashion eras and their trends, on the catwalk were a mixed bag of outrageous clothes featuring chandelier-inspired silhouettes, styled with peep-toe rubber-soled vibrant  booties and flashy art-nouveau sunglasses in a variety of colors.  Jeweled beaded headpieces added to the collection, which was definitely goth-inspired and eerily reminiscent of Dracula with an 80s punk essence.

During the show, models walked the long aisle of the museum – a setting chosen by Nicolas Ghesquière HBO Max costumer for Alicia Vikander in Irma Vep, a series which revolves around Mira (Vikander) who is a disillusioned American movie star. Mira goes to France to play the role of Irma Vep, a remake of a silent film in the French classic thriller Les Vampires. Mira morphs into her many characters, losing herself in the process.

“I like the figure of a vampire who travels through the ages, adapting to dress codes of the era,” said Nicolas Ghesquière when talking about his inspiration for the collection.

An amalgamation of past and present was obvious as one observed a polka dot cape, stylish frocks with cascading ruffles, the semblance of club wear, and some outrageously “couture-ish” pieces planted strategically, which effectively portray dark, majestic influences with feathery frayed chiffon in each silhouette. Think Eyes Wide Shut.

The show was like watching theater, as each modish character walked with a hypnotic muse. The bias-cut slip dress with jeans and a tuxedo-style jean jacket was the most current ensemble that catapulted us from the late 19th century. It was indeed an otherworldly, cloak-inspired, Edwardian-meets-Madonna moment! And Nicolas Ghesquière combined styles with a time traveler flair that was interrupted only by the protester who really only added to the entertaining time lapse with her “Overconsumption = Extinction” poster – one would almost think this was planned by Ghesquière. After all, the protester did make it to the end of the runway!
